Description of the Project

The Red Cross in Aarhus is an independent division of the Danish Red Cross. We work and engage in the local community in Aarhus municipality. Currently, we have more than 40 activities in the municipality, where we help people who are experiencing loneliness, homeless people, people without a network and people in need of aid. Also, we provide courses and education and have several second-hand stores in the city. We are in constant development as we strive to provide voluntary help, when the need for it arises.

As an international volunteer with the Red Cross in Aarhus you’ll help and gain experience with planning events – big and small. We are especially looking for volunteers who are interested in promoting sustainability and second-hand shopping through different events such as pop-up stores in and around Aarhus – the second largest city in Denmark. The second-hand pop-up shops are an opportunity for us to promote sustainability, second-hand shopping and the different Red cross activities in the city. Furthermore, our second-hand stores are our primary source of income and help pay for the different humanitarian activities we have in Aarhus.

Therefore, second-hand events/shops will be your primary focus, but it is also possible to get involved with other events and activities while you are here. You’ll find that we are very open to new ideas and that you will be able to impact the projects you work on.

Volunteer’s Tasks:

  • Project management: planning and hosting second-hand pop-up events – everything from contacting venues, setting up the stores, coordinating and selling the items
  • Selecting, pricing and displaying second-hand items for sale
  • Marketing of the events
  • Customer service
  • Evaluation og events with a focus on improving customer experience and sales.
  • Recruitment and coordination of volunteers
  • Customer service in our established stores in and around the city (when needed)
