Egebakkeskolen is a private independent school with government subsidy, and its pupils are between 6 and 16 years of age, from pre-school to 9th grade. The school puts an emphasis on foreign language acquisition, so the pupils start learning English in the 1st form and German in the 5th. At the moment, there are around 284 pupils, with a fairly equal balance between girls and boys.
The school is located in Brabrand, a suburb of Aarhus, which is the second biggest city in Denmark with approx. 300.000 inhabitants. Aarhus is located on the east coast of Jutland, and any other part of the country is within easy reach by public transport.
Activity A – teaching German
The volunteer will engage in teaching German as an assistant teacher. They will assist small groups of pupils, encouraging them to speak German through games, role plays, and other activities. The volunteer is more than welcome to suggest things and activities for the lessons.
Furthermore, the volunteer will get the opportunity to prepare and conduct lessons, where they will teach the pupils about German traditions or traditions that are specific to the area that he/she comes from.
Activity B – organizing leisure activities
The volunteer will be placed on our after-school programme, where he/she will organize leisure activities for the pupils. We especially focus on outdoor activities and put an emphasis on activities that develop the children´s social skills.
The volunteer can join in activities planned by others, but will also get a chance to plan activities on his/her own.
