We ask all volunteers to make sure their interactions with the world around them is compatible with the most recent recommendations of health authorities with regards to the spread of the Corona virus COVID-19.

The ICYE Federation is taking all necessary precautions so that your volunteering experience with ICYE is safe. These include activities around prevention as well as clear procedures in case someone gets ill or is exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

In general, all participants are expected to follow the guidelines and recommendations in the country they are in.
Volunteers are encouraged to practice hand hygiene, “physical distancing” and when needed wear face coverings to reduce the risks of exposure to COVID-19.

We would also ask you to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (symptoms typically include fever, cough, and shortness of breath) and to contact the local ICYE office in case of potential symptoms of COVID-19.

To make sure your travel is compatible with the current recommendations of health authorities and immigration offices, we ask you to regularly inform yourself and follow the related regulations and restrictions (e.g. quarantine, tests). We will gladly be of assistance if you have any questions or concerns.

Because COVID-19 is very contagious, ICYE cannot guarantee that you will not become infected with COVID-19 during your stay abroad.

We advise you to talk to your host family and colleagues about the rules and regulations as they may change during your stay.

How to get tested

We will take the necessary health precautions for our projects, host families, and volunteers and we expect all to follow the guidelines laid out by the Danish government. As one of these health precautions, we expect new volunteers arriving in Denmark to get a free COVID test shortly after arrival.

Both PCR test and quick test (antigen test) are fee at the official test centres.

If you suspect you are infected, please keep extra distance to the people around you (2 meters) and wear a mask. Please isolate until you are able to be tested and wear a mask to the testing facility.
If you suspect you are infected, please inform the people in your household, so they can keep a distance.

If you suspect you are infected, please book an appointment for a PCR test. The test is free.
You do not need your doctor to be referred to a test. Only call your doctor if you feel so ill that you would like to consult a doctor about your symptoms.

If you have been with people who have tested positive, you may want to also have a test to make sure you are not also infected. You may be contacted by the govenment tracing unit if someone you have been in contact with tests positive.

As a volunteer or host family connected to Dansk ICYE, we expect you to contact us as soon as possible if you test positive for COVID-19.

If you do have a CPR-number you can book an appointment for a PCR test at coronaproever.dk

coronaproever.dk

If you do not have CPR-number you have to register through Covidresults.dk to book an appointment for a PCR test.

Isolation

  • If you live with a host family, we expect you to isolate in the host family’s house, as any other member of their family would.
  • If you live at your project, for example at an “efterskole”, the project will help you to make sure you can isolate there. Typically this will mean not sharing a room with anyone, having access to a bathroom only you use, and having meals brought to your room.
  • If you live in your own apartment, you should isolate in your room. If you share a bathroom with a flatmate, you should disinfect after every use.

In case you are not able to isolate in your current accommodation, the municipality can offer to relocate you during your isolation. The municipality will evaluate your situation and only offer relocation in the following cases:

  • You live in a house where you don’t have your own room.
  • You live with persons who are in a serious risk group in relation to getting the infection and you are not able to keep a safe distance to them.
  • You live with adults who cannot understand the need for distance – for example adults with cognitive disabilities or dementia.

You should contact the municipality after you have received your COVID test reply if you wish to be offered an isolation relocation.

You can find the general information about how COVID-19 is handled on the Danish governments’ websites on the matter.
